A Custom Numpad with Cherry MX Switches and a Removable Teensy 2.0 The numpad features five rows of keys, each using high-quality Cherry MX switches for precise tactile feedback. Print Settings: * Printer: Folger Tech I3 2020 * Rafts: No * Supports: Yes * Resolution: 0.2mm * Infill: 20% Notes: The numpad's bottom covers have a slight angle to ensure they fit perfectly when facing the correct direction. Securing Threaded Inserts: To secure threaded inserts, place one on top of the hole and use a soldering iron to slowly heat it until it melts. Gently push the insert into the hole while applying gentle force. Be cautious not to push too hard, as this can cause plastic to clog the insert. Note: If you encounter plastic clogging the insert, use a screw to try and push it out while the plastic is still warm and pliable. This is usually a problem if the insert has been pushed in too far. For better guidance on securing threaded inserts, watch some instructional videos online that demonstrate this process. Required Hardware/Software: * 1x Teensy2.0 * 4x M3 5x5mm Threaded Inserts * 4x M3x8mm Screws * 25x Cherry MX Switches (or other 14x14mm sized switches) * 25x Compatible Keycaps * 1x Micro USB Cable * Ribbon Cable * Basic Soldering Equipment Software: * Teensy Loader and Arduino IDE * TMK Firmware Updates: 9-26-2016 11:26 Recent changes to the design have made it shorter and more compact, with the Teensy now fitting snugly into the bottom surface. The bottom cover has a key that ensures proper orientation. 9-25-2016 15:13 The design was completely overhauled to utilize threaded inserts for added strength and stability. This redesign also resulted in a slightly more compact numpad, with only a slight amount of flex when pressing the center key without supports. 3-29-16 19:50 Nut holders have been resized to accommodate M3 nuts more easily. 3-25-16 9:50 Space was added for nuts, as M3 screws alone are not sufficient fasteners. 3-23-16 10:00 Inserts were resized for better compatibility with the numpad's design. Future Plans: Better bottom cover design and other potential finishing touches are being considered.
