5KG Roller Stand
thingiverse
This design was created for the ZYLTech "Texas" sized 5KG spools which are 300mm diameter by 160mm width with a 32mm center hole. The primary goal was to reduce resistance while feeding. I placed a 5/16" x 2" bolt in each end of the roller section with a stack of three skateboard bearings separated by four plastic washers. I used bearings with flanges as the outside of the three bearings. 8mm x 50mm bolts would work just as well. The bearings should rest on a non threaded portion of the bolt. The bearings should press fit into the printed roller. I tapped on the bolt with a small hammer to seat them. After assembly I was excited to find that the resistance to feeding is similar or perhaps less than that of 1 KG spool. The 5KG spool will free wheel for quite while if your spin it by hand and rotates with slight finger pressure. I added a version of the roller with a 10mm tunnel all the way through and a printable 8mm spring washer for those that would like to use an 8mm rod all the way through. Printing requires a little over 600 grams of filament. I printed the both the stand and the roller in PETG with 3 layers on all sides 0.3mm layer height and 15% infill. The stand was a 25 hour print. Supports are not needed or desirable. You need to print 1 each of the roller stand and spool roller and 8 of the washer. You also need 2 x 5/16 or 8mm by 2" / 50mm bolts with 2 nuts and 6 skateboard (608) bearings.
