5inch Shuriken

#5" Shuriken\r\n\r\nThe design brief called for a compact, robust X-Frame 3D printed quad that could withstand rough landings. The arms are intentionally designed as weak points, allowing them to break without damaging the frame's core in case of a heavy crash (Update: I've crashed mine several times now and the arms have yet to give way). Replacing them is quick and easy with just a hex key and some fresh zip-ties for the esc and wires. The upper frame protects the electronics.\r\n\r\n###Features:\r\n* Weighing only 100g, including all fastening hardware, this quad is incredibly light.\r\n* Arms are easily and quickly replaced when they break.\r\n* Despite its lightweight design, the quad offers adequate protection for expensive electronic components.\r\n* Building it yourself costs around $10, a fraction of the price of a commercial carbon fiber frame (which can cost over $100) and replacement parts.\r\n* It's designed to work with standard and readily available Flight controllers RX, FPV, and VTX gear.\r\n* The true symmetrical X-Frame design makes it stable and efficient.\r\n* Ready To Fly weight is only 390grams including the battery.\r\n\r\n###Show Your Appreciation:\r\n* Tip me $2 to have the branding removed from the panel on the front of the Frame under the camera, and I'll send you the file.\r\n* Tip me $5 to have the front panel customized with any text or image embossed or depressed into the frame, and I'll send you the file.\r\n* Tip me $10 to get the source files in any format that can be exported from Fusion360.\r\n\r\nI've completed my printing and will start assembling it soon. I'll update this design with full instructions once I'm done.\r\n\r\nhttps://youtu.be/MyM_CfdMHaI \r\n\r\n###Updates:\r\n* 20/6/18 - The antenna panel was thickened for added durability.\r\n* 19/6/18 - This project is now complete, and some minor tweaks were made to the parts (best to redownload all files).\r\n * Arms were stretched by 5 mm for better prop clearance.\r\n * Frames were adjusted for prop flex clearance.\r\n * Detailed print settings were added.\r\n * A short video was included.\r\n* 11/6/18 - Some photos of my completed frame are now available, and the total weight with all fastening hardware came in at an impressive 100g. This is better than comparable commercial carbon fiber frames, and I believe it's equally as strong (if not stronger).\r\n\r\n##Required Hardware:\r\n* 8x M3x2.4mm nuts\r\n* 2x M3 Nylock nuts (camera mount)\r\n* 8x M3x12mm Countersunk screws\r\n* 8x M3x8mm Countersunk Screws\r\n* 4x 5.6mm plastic standoffs \r\n* 4x 3mm thread inserts\r\n* 4 x 38mm aluminium spacers - (could be substituted with a printed spacer)\r\n\r\n##Designed for use with:\r\n* Runcam Owl\r\n* BetaFlight F4 (or other 30.5x30.5mm Flight controller)\r\n* ImmersionRC Tramp HV\r\n* FrSky XM+\r\n* 2205 23000-25000kv motors\r\n* 5inch props\r\n\r\n##Other required parts:\r\n* Antenna tube\r\n* XT60 Battery connector\r\n* 12-14awg wire\r\n* 22awg wire\r\n* Velcro (3M Dual Lock is fantastic https://hobbyking.com/en_us/automotive-grade-plastic-velcro.html)\r\n* Battery strap\r\n\r\nNote: The cut out in the Frame-Left allows for access to the USB port on the board. The cutout shouldn't significantly affect the strength, but testing will confirm this. Alternatively, you can mirror the Frame-Right in your slicing software and use it on the left.
