58mm filter lens cover for Sony FDR 3000 action camera

Since I got Sony FDR-X3000 excelent action camera, I was thinking about some handy accessories which can help to make videos even better. I decided as useful to make camera available to use some common DSLR filters. Therefore I made UV filter lens cover for this purpose. Despite of the fact I have 62mm objective, I selected 58mm filters as smaller alternative. I even tried 52mm, but in this case I observed vignette during fast movements caused by image stabilization. The reasons why I decided to create such lens cover was following:

I wanted to have some lens cover, because of original from Sony is quite hard and expensive to buy in Czech Republic

I wanted to have possibility to use DSLR filters (e.g. CPL)
### Changelog:

*24.11.2018

Modified design to use just ring for filter. This ring is then used to attach filter. This is more comfortable when we need to clean up filter or when we dont use it at all. Filter can be simply dismounted.

Lowered weight of plastic and also made a few holes to allow better BOSS cooling.

Added small shield which protect record button from unexpected recording when unintentionaly pressed in pocket.

*22.1.2018

Made less reflexive ring close to camera lens.
Modified parts to allow stronger glue together.

*22.10.2017

Merged several printed parts to only 2 parts to reduce print time.

*15.10.2017

Made a little smaller parts to makes model evem more light.

Removed front plate to unhide microphone inputs.

*13.2.2017

Model split to 3 parts which are more easy to print. Parts shall be glue (e.g. by acetone) after print together. This modification also allowed to make model bit smaller, with thin walls, so it is now less heavy.

As the last improvement the reflection breaker was added inside.

*30.1.2017

Adjusted tube length to be 1,5 mm shorter to suppress vignette effect caused by optical stabilization during fast moves.

*29.1.2017

It seems that previous model (k9) has short tube. This causes that filter touch directly the lens of camera. To minimize risc of scratching the lens I made new version with longer tube. There are also following modifications done:

1.Extended tube length to avoid touching of lens.
3.Created clip which allow to plug cover without securing by additional rope (just plug it on camera and that's all).
5.Filter ring for better light conditions. This ring is required because bridges used during print makes reflections on filter. Therefore ring is printed, then polished by sand paper to make matting black surface. Finally this ring shall be glue inside cover.

*11.1.2017
Created first model of cover.

Print instructions

Category: Camera Summary

58mm filter lens cover for Sony FDR 3000 action camera

Since I got Sony FDR-X3000 excelent action camera, I was thinking about some handy accessories which can help to make videos even better.
