58mm Filter Lens Cover for Sony FDR-3000 Action Camera Since I acquired the Sony FDR-X3000 action camera, I was looking to upgrade my video production with some handy accessories. I decided it would be useful to make the camera compatible with common DSLR filters. Therefore, I created a UV filter lens cover for this purpose. Despite having a 62mm objective lens, I chose 58mm filters as a smaller alternative. I even experimented with 52mm, but in that case, I noticed vignette during fast movements caused by image stabilization. The reasons behind creating such a lens cover were: I wanted to have a protective lens cover because the original one from Sony is quite hard and expensive to purchase in the Czech Republic. I wanted to have the possibility of using DSLR filters (e.g. CPL). Changelog: 24.11.2018 Modified design to use just a ring for the filter. This ring is then used to attach the filter. This setup is more comfortable when cleaning the filter or not using it at all, as the filter can be simply dismounted. Lowered the weight of plastic and added a few holes to allow better heat dissipation from the BOSS cooling system. Added a small shield to protect the record button from unexpected recording when unintentionally pressed in a pocket. 22.1.2018 Made the reflexive ring closer to the camera lens less reflective. Modified parts to allow stronger adhesion together. 22.10.2017 Merged several printed parts into only two parts to reduce print time. 15.10.2017 Made the parts slightly smaller to make the model even lighter. Removed the front plate to reveal the microphone inputs. 13.2.2017 Split the model into three parts that are easier to print, and then glue them together after printing (e.g. with acetone). This modification also allowed for a smaller model with thinner walls, making it less heavy. As an additional improvement, a reflection breaker was added inside. 30.1.2017 Adjusted the tube length to be 1.5 mm shorter to suppress vignette caused by optical stabilization during fast movements. 29.1.2017 It appears that the previous model (k9) had a short tube, causing the filter to touch directly against the camera lens. To minimize the risk of scratching the lens, I created a new version with a longer tube. There are also following modifications done: Extended the tube length to avoid touching the lens. Created a clip that allows plugging in the cover without securing it with an additional rope (just plug it onto the camera and that's all). Added a filter ring for better light conditions. This ring is required because the bridges used during printing create reflections on the filter. Therefore, the ring is printed, then polished with sandpaper to make a matte black surface. Finally, this ring shall be glued inside the cover. 11.1.2017 Created the first model of the cover. Print Settings: Printer: Rebel II Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.6 mm
