577/.450 Martini Henry Case Length Gauge
thingiverse
If you're passionate about vintage Victorian rifles like I am, you've probably grown tired of meticulously measuring each piece of brass with a caliper. This ingenious tool is specifically designed to measure the case length of a 577/450 Martini Henry cartridge, saving you time and effort. When I use Lee resizing dies, this device instantly lets me know if the measurement is spot on. It's equally useful when forming new cases, allowing me to quickly trim the necks to near-perfect length with only 0.001"-.002" remaining. Please note that this tool works wonders for my rifle and situation, but may not be suitable for yours! Use it at your own risk; I'm not a qualified gunsmith and don't pretend to be one. Feel free to modify the design as needed to achieve the correct case sizes. It's essential to have a well-calibrated printer to ensure accurate results. After some tweaks, I managed to get the cases fitting perfectly with just a slight sanding using emery paper. To make it even easier to use, I've loosened the tolerances so that empty casings fit more smoothly. Additionally, I noticed my sizing was slightly longer than usual due to the cartridge bases, but Rev2 addresses these issues for me and may do the same for you. If you decide to create a version of this tool, I'd love to see it!
