I designed this cap with some specific intentions in mind, I wanted it to cover the entire lens face, filter ring and all, like a sheath, and I wanted it to be the "spring-loaded" pinch-on style. I had a couple lenses that I was specifically designing it for as well, but I also wanted it to be uniform enough that it could be used on a variety of different lenses. I've printed and tested this cap on three different lenses (by different manufacturers), and it worked basically exactly how I wanted it to.

I designed this with a front faceplate so that you can easily customize just that part and print. Easily toss on any branding, or none, or your own, and run with it! All I ask is that if you remix or customize, you let me know. so I can see what spins people are putting on it.

To see actual prints of my design, check out the “Makes” tab (I print basically everything I design.)

Print instructions

Printer: MakerFarm Pegasus 10"

Rafts: Doesn't Matter

Supports: Yes

Resolution: 0.15

Infill: 20%

Filament: GST3d PLA+ Black

Notes:
Rafts Note: I didn't use any rafts, but I can't imagine it would hurt to, if you like... just more clean-up I guess.

Supports Note: I only used supports on the main body, nothing else.

Brim Note: I DID use a brim on everything so that the smaller pieces were sure to stay in place while printing.

Resolution Note: I printed on at 0.15 and another a 0.1 and didn't notice any real difference. You could probably get away with 0.2 even, if you wanted to speed things up a tad

Infill Note: You could probably play with the infill settings too, if you want. It doesn't need to be light-tight, but you do need some strength in the "springs" and also in some parts of the main body, so keep that in mind.

When everything is printed, just snap everything together, it should be fairly simple to follow along, if you review the exploded view images that I've included. I used the tiniest micro-dot of super glue on the (single) rear spring mounting posts, but I really don't think it was necessary. I think you could probably do without. Those snap together REALLY snug though, so be sure to apply ample pressure.
