55 gallon drum or barrel
thingiverse
I designed my own drum model after trying a couple of others, but they didn't meet my standards for accuracy. I modeled it after a 55-gallon drum that I made from my UDS (Ugly Drum Smoker) using reinforcing ribs to create a more visually appealing design. To improve the printing process, I added a hollow version with a solid bottom and two horizontal perimeters, which produces a better finish than just the original model without any top layers. Printing with 15% infill works well for enclosed models, while three perimeters are sufficient for open-top designs. A layer thickness of 0.1mm looks great, but 0.2mm also yields good results. To print the drum upright, simply rotate it 90 degrees in your slicer. I created this model using Fusion 360 as my first "from scratch" 3D design project and am very pleased with its outcome. UPDATE: I remodeled the original file to improve printing quality at larger sizes, specifically addressing issues with overhangs on the top lip that may not print well. The updated version can be printed to any size your printer allows, and I've included both the original and revised files for your convenience.
