This is outdated now; have a look at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1231973 A hub to fit a reel of filament with a 54mm center hole is designed. The front side features a recess for a "608" bearing. The hole for the 8mm rod measures 13.5mm in diameter, allowing the internal rotating part of the bearing not to rub against the printed part. A tight fit is intended, so slots have been included for a screwdriver to be used to pry the hub off the reel. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12863 was studied along with another item that can no longer be located. The bearing's placement on thing 12863 was appreciated, but a snug, flat fit on the reel and a larger hole for the M8 rod were desired. Update 07/01/15: A 57mm version has been uploaded; the source is easily scalable to other sizes. The stand being used is scrap wood roughly the right length from the workshop, drilled with an 8mm hole in one end. A vice is employed to hold it up, free on the desk. The rod is secured by bolts on both sides of the wood and M8 nuts are utilized to keep the reel in place; the first nut is tightened a quarter turn and the second is used as a locknut with sufficient tension to grip the bearing's center without hindering its rotation. Instructions Cura was used at 0.2mm for slicing, it is suggested to rotate by 180 degrees and apply support for the bearing hole alone. The model was created using RS Components' free CAD package.
