50mm Spool Support For Hypercube
thingiverse
I'm creating a Hypercube printer and needed a mount for a filament spool, so I came up with this design from scratch. This setup might look familiar to some of you who have posted similar designs here before, but I built mine entirely on my own. The spindle features two 608 bearings that run smoothly on either an 8mm or 5/16" shaft. Interestingly, these two sizes differ by less than .001 inch in diameter. I used a 6" long piece of 5/16" rod and threaded one end with 5/16" UNC threads. Alternatively, you could use a 5/18" X 6" bolt. You'll notice that the mount has a slot and a boss for two 5mm screws and nuts to secure the rod if it doesn't fit snugly. Fortunately, my chosen rod was a tight fit and didn't require pinch screws. Your results may vary. The 608 bearings press firmly into the counterbores on each end of the spindle, and I placed an 8mm washer between the inboard bearing and the mount to ensure a secure fit. I also included arms on the spindle to make it easy to hold the spindle still when tightening the nut.
