I printed out a precision calibration cube, measuring exactly one inch in size, and successfully calibrated my Printrbot LC with remarkable accuracy. However, I soon discovered that my printer's performance was not as precise when it came to printing complex internal features such as holes and openings, which turned out to be significantly smaller than expected. To address this issue, I created a custom calibration tool, dubbed the "cal slab," to enable me to fine-tune multiple sizing parameters after adjusting my printer settings and Slic3r configurations. The cal slab measures only 6mm in height due to the fact that I had already achieved excellent Z-axis calibration. Additionally, I incorporated numerous thin walls into the design to estimate my actual extrusion width, which surprisingly turned out to be much larger than what Slic3r predicted. Print the slab, grab your calipers, and compare the actual dimensions to those listed on the drawing (found in the attached pdf file). This project was designed using Cubify Design software. I highly recommend this comprehensive $200 package for professional designers who demand exceptional results.
