500 Group Mamba Supercar

Finally done! This is a late submission for the 500 Group-sponsored Supercar body challenge. I regret not finishing it in time, but I put my heart into it and am pretty happy with the end result. For those of you that have Autodesk Alias, I hope you enjoy looking it over as much as I did creating it. For this design, I wanted to focus on fluidity and let the surface reflections describe the car. As it is intended to reach speeds of 225 mph, I decided to keep the form very smooth, with the idea of keeping drag coefficient down. I put a lot of effort in to build in the smooth surface blends, transitions and continuity to really help control the reflections. I was also reminded of a quotation by Ferdinand Porsche, who emphasized the effectiveness of a fundamentally clean and pure form, and how it can stand on its own with a minimum of details. Though it seems relatively subdued for a supercar, something that normally conjures up images of outlandish proportions, details and forms, I believe that this design is handsome, aggressive, and pure. For this supercar, I made a point to emphasize where the power is being generated, and where it is going to. The rear fender has a slight bulge that breaks the flow of the rear deck to the backlight. Though it interrupts some visual continuity, I believe this bulge gives the car greater character in profile, and it remains subtle by blending in with the rear fender. I wanted to further allude to where the power comes from by giving the body sides and greenhouse a nice subtle taper in plan view, then widening the rear fender flares. Thanks for any feedback you may have, I'm currently in the process of rendering dynamic shots. -Eric
