.50 Calibre BMG Shell & Projectile

This is a .50 calibre BMG round as per plans found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_BMG. I use just the shell to hold my bullet chilli at work - it looks great, a red chilli popping out of a BMG shell as if it was the bullet. The one at work is printed in black and contrasts well with the chilli. This has been optimized to print with Vase mode - it's far quicker than using layer by layer printing (as other versions of this model do) and is very strong, looking great too. Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Notes: Prints well in Spiral (Vase) Mode with Simplify3D. There's a trick to printing the bottom of the shell - at 0.2 layer height, you need 11 bottom solid layers, or the print will collapse (90 degree bend 2mm from bottom). For the bullet, print slowly, and set slicer to slow down as layer gets faster - if you don't do this, you'll have to cool aggressively as you get to the point of the projectile, or risk a soggy mess. Depending on your cooling and printer setup, you might find the projectile just a little too small to sit solidly in the shell - if you find this, scale it up to 102% or 103%, and it'll fit well. How I Designed This: Used wikipedia shell/bullet dimensions to design in Fusion 360. Sketched profile, revolved to solid, then converted to a shell with 0.4mm using the shell tool.
