My mom required a butter slicer for a church dinner, but couldn't locate one in stores, so I developed this device on my own. It employs waxed dental floss to slice through the butter: Push one end of the floss through one of the holes and secure it with a peg. Next, move downward beneath the crevice to the other side, looping the floss around the angled protrusion before sliding back down beneath the crevice on the opposite side while keeping the line taut. Continue this process until you reach the other hole and push the second end of the floss through, securing it with another peg. If the floss breaks, simply remove the pegs and replace them. This butter slicer might also allow switching out the dental floss for small stainless steel wire, such as piano wire, for slicing harder butter.
