Combining elements from "Spinning Top v15" by cgpena for FAT mass, high mechanical inertia, and longer spin time (FAT RING), I wanted to push it further. First modification came from designs with ball bearing tips. I found that PLA/ABS tips would wear out quickly and offer poor low resistance, resulting in shorter spin times. So, I modified the top tip by cupping it out in Tinkercad, allowing a standard BB gun BB to be super-glued inside. Next, I drew inspiration from tigermcho's "Propeller & Spinning Top Launcher" design. The launcher provides higher speed and consistent perpendicular stability at launch, compared to fingers snapping to create spin. If the top wobbles when released, it will either continue wobbling or waste energy to overcome it, resulting in shorter spin times. I modified the top spindle to couple with the hand pull. WOW! Success with over 5 minute spins! Enjoy the best of three worlds! Print 100% fill on the ring for high mechanical inertia and long spin time. Preassemble parts before gluing to ensure all threads work as intended. I used my daughter's makeup mirror as a spinning base, which is cupped and allows the top to gravitate towards the center, reducing wasted energy. Using such a base can increase spin times. Assemble the tip and ring first. Screw in the tip and ensure it's flush and level, then drip super glue into the threads inside the ring. This ensures a solid bond between the tip and ring. If you assemble the spindle top first, you may struggle to hold onto it when threading in the tip. I used a toilet paper roll to support the top, with the tip facing up, and dripped super glue into the tip. Then, I dropped a BB into place, ensuring there's enough glue for a solid bond between the BB and the tip. Allow the glue to dry before playing. The launcher works so well that it can spin out the spindle if not glued. To prevent this, drip super glue into the top ring threads (for the spindle) and rotate it to coat all threads for maximum connection.
