5 Inch Tri-loop Toroidal propeller
thingiverse
This propeller is part of a series of propellers that I decided to design after hearing the results of MIT's Lincoln Labs development of a toroidal propeller design that is significantly more efficiency and quieter than traditional propellers. The purpose of designing my own toroidal propellers is to attempt to repeat the results of MIT in order validate their claims regarding efficiency improvements, and to acquire propellers of a more efficient design for my model paramotors, drones etc. This particular is a 5" diameter 4.0" pitch TRI-loop toroidal propeller designed for FDM printing. This is my third iteration where I changed from an ogival airfoil to a N.A.C.A. 2415 airfoil with a section having 2 percent camber at 0.4 of the chord from the leading edge, with thickness 15 percent of the chord. The NACA airfoil is thicker and provides a smoother transition on the underside of the blade leading into the trailing edge, which should provide greater strength and efficiency. If you test print this design please do comment on your results and any issues. I've left the older variant available for download as well as posting the newest variant so please make sure to download the NACA version for the best results.
