UPDATE: I've launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund this project, offering higher-quality prints for those who want to purchase the case, PCB, or buttons instead of making their own. Check out the link https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1088100966/pigear-handheld-gaming-system-20. This design builds upon the 2.8-inch version and keeps the internal components the same except for the screen. The added features include an external USB port to connect a keyboard or joystick, and there's enough space to use two cylinder batteries for extended playtime. I was inspired by the Sega Game Gear and aimed to create a better version of the Pigrrl 2 that was uncomfortable to hold. The improvements in this design are increased battery capacity, available HDMI connectivity, and eliminated speaker hum. A Teensy is used for controls, providing true analog joystick functionality instead of just a D-pad. I combined features from other projects, removed unnecessary ones, and added what I thought should be there. Future designs will follow, and releasing this one freely may spark more interest in it. I'm unsure about the 3D printed six-button plate's performance, and I don't have DPAD or start/select buttons. This design was intended to use a set of PCBs that can be purchased cheaply ($10) for all three boards at miniarcademachines.com/product/pcb-boards-for-the-5-inch-pigear/. The other necessary items include: 1x Raspberry Pi 3 - Model B 1x Adafruit Mono 2.5W Class D Audio Amplifier - PAM8302 1x Breadboard-friendly SPDT Slide Switch (check measurements before ordering, as I use non-standard switches) 1x Lithium Ion Polymer Battery - 3.7v 2500mAh (cylinder type, resembling AA batteries) 2x Mini Metal Speaker w/ Wires - 8 ohm 0.5W 1x PowerBoost 1000 Charger (500 will work with a smaller screw) 1x 16GB sandisk or samsung class 10 SD/MicroSD Memory Card with retropie/attract front end (a download link can be provided for the LCD setup, as it's tricky to get working) 1x 5 in TFT lcd for raspberry pi (Waveshare brand with holes is what I use, but other cheap Ebay options may work) 6x 6mm Tactile Button switches 6x 12mm Tactile Button switches (with removable keycaps) 10x #4-40 3/8 machine screws 4x #2-56 3/8 machine sccrews 1x ribbon cable for jumper wire connections, and possibly 22 gauge for the analog stick.
