I'm using a custom-made 5-fret practice neck, designed after a standard Sawtooth acoustic guitar, to hone my finger placement skills without lugging the whole guitar everywhere I go. Rubber bands wrapped snugly around the end nodes or wire threaded through the node holes make great makeshift practice strings.
