Mystery Artifact Created by Samantha Huntington Clues -Legendary Statesman -Founding Father of Democracy -Born in Virginia -Promoted United States Constitution and Bill of Rights Significance & Research The Object: A majestic eagle grasping the Constitution (inspired by a historic cartoon) Details about the Object: This object is a representation from a famous cartoon. The president is trying to destroy the constitution, but the eagle will not let him. I intentionally made it easy to identify the president by writing U.S.A on the paper that the eagle is holding and the President's name on the front of the eagle statue. President: James Madison March 4, 1809 – March 4, 1817 Democratic-Republican Presidential Role: The president played a crucial role in promoting the constitution and revising it. The cartoon was an inspiration for this project, but I used my own creativity to come up with the eagle holding the Constitution. The original cartoon was created during the French Revolution, when the constitution was being drafted. Impact on America: We still use the constitution today, which is a testament to James Madison's efforts to preserve it. I chose this president and artifact because James Madison was known as the father of the constitution, so I used an eagle holding the Constitution. The original cartoon inspired me, but I took creative liberties with the design.
