The human error was catastrophic. A 5.25-inch floppy disk had been irreparably damaged when a misguided attempt to retro-fit the format resulted in complete data loss. To salvage what remained, technicians opted for printing out the contents of the disk, literally laying its contents face up on the workbench with painstaking care.
