5.25" Floppy Drive Case

<p>This is a top and bottom for a bare 5.25" floppy drive such as the TEAC FD-55GFR. It is almost certainly compatible with other TEAC FD-55 drives, and likely with other floppy drives of the same vintage. (Note of course that the 5.25" is the floppy disk size: the width of the drive itself is 14.6cm on the metal, and 14.9cm at the face.)</p><p>These parts overlap together but screw onto the drive separately, not directly to one another. Both fit together with a space for the drive face at the front, and an open back. The drive connectors fit fine with the solid bottom, although it is slightly tricky to remove the power connector with the bottom in place.</p><p>Ventilation is not provided for using this case, but hopefully it isn't an issue: there were no obvious ways to provide ventilation that wouldn't lead to dust getting in the drive mechanism. Keep an eye on your drives if they are being used heavily.</p><p>Screws are M3 screws (6-8mm in length, with space for cap heads in the design). In general only half of the screws need to be installed, on diagonals. The drive specifications also indicate #6 machine screws may also work, but I have not tested these. (#4 screws seem slightly more correct as M3 replacements.)</p><p>The photographs show an earlier version of the bottom, without rounded edges or a bottom lip for the drive front panel.</p><p>FreeCAD files for both the top and bottom are included.
