5.25 drive bay cover

5.25 drive bay cover

I was in a pinch repairing an older PC, but I didn't have the specific drive bay cover I needed. I was hoping to find a generic one on Thingiverse, but everything I found was either designed to clip into a specific case or was an adapter for something else. I quickly made this and it worked out perfectly. It's just a simple plate in the front with minimal structure extending into the bay to reach the first screw holes. Now I can print generic covers that fit any case. I included the Sketchup file so anyone who wants to modify this design can do so easily. I made the plate dimensions slightly smaller than they needed to be because I didn't want to reprint or sand it down for this particular job. In the end, the covers fit well, but they could probably be made a bit larger for an even snugger fit. To install it, simply stick the cover in the bay with the rails towards the bottom. Line up one of the two holes on each side and use screws to attach them. The holes are small enough that the screws can bite into the plastic securely.
