The prototype for the FoodPod, my Wildlife Feeder, has been hanging outside my patio doors, and I often see little birds nipping in and out of it. This led me to wonder if the design could be adapted into a nest box for small birds; they're the ones who so often have their nests broken into and destroyed by larger birds. So, let's see Mr Woodpecker try to hammer his way through an ABS shell. The result is The NestPod, an adaptation of the FoodPod design, designed to be mounted to a tree or wall for smaller birds to make their nests in. The three large holes of the original have been replaced with one 30mm aperture suitable for wrens, robins, bluetits and other smaller species. The front section can be unlocked in the same way so the pod can be cleaned, then locked back in place to create a watertight seam. The NestPod could also be used without the mounting collar as a small house-pet habitat, like for mice, rats, hamsters etc., able to be cleaned in the same way.
