But in meeting them, you can assume that something of significance has happened in that place. Perhaps not significant to you or me, but to the Pale Herald. They keep a record of many things on their back. A great tome filled with endless accounts of bravery, tragedy and humdrum history. On such an important occasion, they unsling the tome from their back. With great ceremony they slowly crack the great book open and leaf through the enormous pages until they find the right event. With a droning voice they start to recite the appropriate paragraph. It is very important that you pay attention. If you seem indifferent to the story or in any way try to leave the recitation, you might invoke it's disdain and suddenly find yourself swept away to somewhere and sometime else, acting out the part of the event's characters. Like a puppet on strings, going through the motions of a play. You may well learn something: glimpse a secret, discover an unknown truth. But you may also fall to a blade or be turned to cinders from some fiery incantation. Hope that you are on the right side of history.
