$5.00Bob, the Alien Robolamp
myminifactory
I needed a lamp for my desk to use when sanding new models or just to see what I'm doing, but I couldn't find one that suited me. So I decided to make my own and Bob was born. The actual lamp is a push-off/push-on lighting unit available in most hardware stores at a very small cost usually in packs of two or three which fits into the 3D-printed model. The neck will rotate 360 degrees and the head will tilt 180 degrees giving me plenty of flexibility to position the light exactly where I need it. Just make sure children know that Bob isn't a toy; everyone who's seen him so far thinks he's adorable. You can print the parts in different colors as shown in the photos or all the same, but once you assemble them, you won't have to take them apart again. The head has holes for 3x5mm neodymium magnets if you prefer to use them to hold Bob in place, but I found that they don't stick as well as just placing him in his spot with his sticky pad (although the downside of that approach is that it's a bit harder to change the batteries). However you use him, he's still adorable. You can also order Bob fully printed in various colors even with the lighting unit attached from my Etsy store at www.etsy.com/uk/shop/enterprisexddesign.
