4x5 Standard Film Holder
thingiverse
OverviewThere is an optimized and variable version of 4x5 film holder by marrow. All parts have completely flat bottom surface now. Also I checked necessary clearances, added place for velvet strip in the gate gap and made separate details for using it with thin 0.5mm metal or plastic dark slide or 1mm plastic diy version. No supports at all!Works with 0.5mm or 1mm dark slidesVelvet strip for proper light sealingUse it as single or double holder: just print two of them and glue together. Or not.PrintingAs I said, all three big parts have a flat bottom so you need to orient them in the slicer properly. 0.4 nozzle, 0.2 layer, 15% infill will be nice. Two small parts for bottom cover: make the cap_1.stl standing as fence on the thicc side, cap_2.stl laying down. Choose the gate thickness that you have and print only 1mm or 05mm parts. The Dark SlideFor my print I used a common A4 documents folder. It was made from cool looking stripped black 1mm plastic so I cut it (drawing in the attachments) and used thin velvet for sealing. With 1mm thick gate you can't completely take it out from the holder because of light leaks, the velvet can't handle this, so I make the markings in the safe opened position. Tip: You can make about 4 4x5" gates from one 2$ folder.Build it togetherMake sure that you have nice flat top surfaces. Do some sanding if required. Use a small amount of cyanoacrylate or dichloroethane to glue the big parts together. Do it on the flat rigid surface and watch out for the straight sides. Then take the cap_1 part, place it in the holder, apply the glue, cover it with cap_2 part and you will get the exactly position. Cool and good.To do9x12cm versionMake the tiny red-green slider on top that can remind if you already used this film or it is ready to shootImprove the velvet sealingMake a fancy printed handles for dark slidesI'm attached the Fusion .f3d project so you can do what you want too. For instance, the film clearance is 0.3mm so if you will use the thicker photographic paper you may need more.
