4th Axis with TailStock
thingiverse
This is a 4th axis and tailstock project that I built for my CNC machine. The base and tailstock block were printed with PLA carbon fiber, featuring 3mm solid walls on top and bottom - an overkill, but it gets the job done. To remove support material, I used a screwdriver, which took some time, but it worked out in the end. If you can't find M12 1mm pitch bolts, don't worry. You can buy standard M12 bolts and cut them to size with a grinder. Then, just tape on an M12 1mm pitch thread from any hardware store - that's all there is to it. Any questions? Just ask! The STL file I used for this project is version 2, which is an updated version of the original (version 1) shown in the photos above. I fixed some issues and reduced material usage in V2. A 1:4 gear ratio is achieved with an 80T and a 20T gear. This might be helpful to someone out there. I sourced all the remaining parts from eBay and my local hardware store. Here are the links for the eBay parts: For the 20T gear, I bought this one on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1Pcs-MXL20T-Timing-Belt-Pulley-Gear-Sprocket-6-35mm-Bore-For-10mm-Width-Belt/272865185166?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 For the 80T gear, I chose a 12mm bore: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1Pcs-Timing-Belt-Pulley-MXL80T-Gear-8-10-12-14-15-16-17-20mm-Bore-For-3D-Printer/272991077918?hash=item3f8f89461e:m:miJkTBFdjPHDnqg3tRSUh8Q My Nema 23 stepper motor was purchased from eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nema-1-8-23-Stepper-Motor-1-26Nm-2-8A-4-wires-Single-Shaft-DIY-CNC-3D-Printer/162958962168?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 The bearings I used were 5 pieces of 12mm x 28mm x 8mm shielded deep groove radial ball bearings (CT-C-R4S6), which I bought on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-Pcs-12mm-x-28mm-x-8mm-6001Z-Shielded-Deep-Groove-Radial-Ball-Bearing-CT-C-R4S6/292087649643?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 My chuck is a metal 3-jaw lathe chuck with an M12 1.45mm self-centering hardened lock rod, which I bought on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Metal-3-Jaw-Lathe-Chuck-M12-1-45mm-Self-Centering-Hardened-2PCS-Lock-Rods-New/162494161994?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 For the 4-pin plug, I bought this on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4Pin-Aviation-Plug-Metal-Connector-Audio-Bipolar-Stepper-Motor-Connector-DA/253321739939?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 And finally, I used a 106-4MXL-133T 10mm width 2.032mm pitch rubber timing belt for my stepper motor, which I bought on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/106-4MXL-133T-10mm-Width-2-032mm-Pitch-Rubber-Timing-Belt-for-Stepper-Motor/391921345293?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
