4mm mdf chain
thingiverse
So, here we have a chain designed specifically for cutting from 4mm MDF or HDF material - I used HDF. It can be utilized to create either a standard chain or a chainsaw chain, with the added twist of making a chainsword chain, a popular concept in Warhammer 40K lore. If you're unfamiliar, a quick Google search will fill you in on the details. This design is based off Gedgey's original work but has been modified to accommodate 4mm material and include chains. You can find the original design on Thingiverse under the ID number 1665403. Rather than explaining the assembly process in text, I've created some visual aids using Tinkercad to demonstrate how it works. To achieve a smooth operation, sanding is essential, as seen in the last two images, which showcase my approach to making this task more manageable. I utilized one of the posts used for assembly in the vice of a drill press and the circular bits on hand to facilitate this process. By attaching a grinding stone meant for rotary tools to the drill and securing the "trigger" with a zip-tie, I was able to sand the inside of the tooth-links efficiently. The posts were then simply glued to the outer links using PVA glue - wood glue is an effective option here. All cutting was done at my local fab lab.
