4Max pro 2.0 Anti-Backlash Fix

One part is based on this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5198158 but i found it too much rigid to work properly, and it gives some movement impediment.

The 4Max Pro 2.0 has a problem in Z axis. It results in imprecisions during small movements like 0.1 or 0.05. Using a mesh bed levelling or printing at 0.1 or 0.12 is a pain and the results will be like a russian roulette. Sometimes it works, sometimes you will find layer skipped in the Z axis.

The Anti Backlash spring is not adequate to compensate the axial force caused by the heated bed.

I tried various solution, like using another t8 (in POM) , changing the spring with a more rigid one. All this things helped a bit, but occasionally the problem appeared again, so none of these weren't a definitive solution.

So i tried to add a "springy" piece of TPU to the Spacer used in the mod i linked before.

Finally this semi-rigid solution worked perfectly and solved the problem.

You will need to print the Spacer in ABS, with 25% or more infill and at last 2 perimeters o 3. The TPU antibacklash should be print with 20% infill, no more, 1 or 2 perimeters max, and 3 or 4 solid infill in both inferior and superior faces. 95A or 92A for tpu would be perfect.

Hardware needed : 2 x m3 self-locking nuts and 2 x m3 10mm/12mm bolts.

For assembly it, you will need to disassembly the z axis, put the Spacer ABS part between the 2 pieces of the nut and the spring (Look the image).

The part in TPU could be added even after the assembly due to opened design. Use the bolts to couple the ABS part and the TPU part.

Use the bolts to find the righ tension you need, don't tighten them at will.

Hope this helps for your happy printing :D
Category: 3D Printer Parts
