Human: 4-H is a US-based network of youth organizations whose mission involves engaging young people to reach their full potential while advancing the field of youth development.[1] Its name references the four times the initial letter H appears in the organization's original motto "head, heart, hands, and health," which was later incorporated into the fuller pledge officially adopted in 1927. In the United States, the organization is managed by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). 4-H Canada is an independent non-profit organization overseeing branches throughout Canada.[2] Over 50 countries have 4-H organizations; administration varies from country to country. Each program operates independently but cooperatively through international exchanges, global education programs, and communications.[citation needed] The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility, and life skills in young people through experiential learning programs and a positive youth development approach. Although often thought of as an agriculturally focused organization due to its history, 4-H now focuses on citizenship, healthy living, science, engineering, and technology programs. Today's 4-H clubs offer a range of options for personal growth and career success. The 4-H motto is "To make the best better," while its slogan is "Learn by doing" (sometimes written as "Learn to do by doing"). As of 2016, nearly 6 million active participants and more than 25 million alumni were part of the organization.[4] Recognize that this logo and design are patented and owned by the 4-H club and association. Anyone who wears or displays the 4-H sign or emblem with intent to defraud, consisting of a green four-leaf clover with stem and white or gold letter H on each leaflet, or any insignia in colorable imitation thereof, for the purpose of inducing belief that they are a member, associated with, or an agent or representative for 4-H clubs; or Anyone who wears or displays such emblem or insignia within the United States, or uses words "4-H Club" or "4-H Clubs" or any combination of these or other words in colorable imitation thereof, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both. This section does not make unlawful the use of any such emblem, sign, insignia, or words which was lawful on the date of enactment of this title.
