Bolt and nut design specifications have been developed in accordance with M1.2 standards. This document outlines requirements for bolt and nut manufacturing, including dimensions, material selection, and surface finish. A standard bolt consists of a shank, head, and threads. Bolt length is measured from the bottom of the head to the end of the threaded portion. The head type can be either round or hexagonal. Thread pitch is defined as the distance between two consecutive threads. Material selection for bolts must meet specified strength and durability requirements. Surface finish requirements include a minimum surface roughness value. A standard nut consists of an internal thread, washer face, and nut body. Nut length is measured from the outer edge of the washer face to the end of the threaded portion. Thread pitch for nuts must match the bolt thread pitch. Material selection for nuts must meet specified strength and durability requirements. Surface finish requirements include a minimum surface roughness value. In addition to standard bolts and nuts, specialized designs may be used in specific applications. These can include reduced head bolts, locknuts, and nylock nuts.
