The Dacian Cup is a remarkable artifact with a distinctive shape that includes a truncated cone featuring slightly curved walls, a wide rim and a narrow base. A quadrilateral handle, in cross-section, is positioned under the rim and near the bottom. The vessel displays small oblique incisions near its base, suggesting intricate craftsmanship. Most experts believe it was used as a cup-like oil lamp due to evidence of secondary burning on the inside. It's also possible that the Dacian Cup played a role in rituals, given certain archaeological contexts in Transylvania. Found in Costeşti – Cetăţuie, a commune within Orăştioara (Hunedoara County), the Dacian Cup measures 6.5 cm in height, with a rim diameter of 13.5 cm and a base diameter of 5.1 cm. The cup is made from clay with a rough brick-red paste containing sand, crafted using hand-built techniques followed by oxidation firing. Dating back to the 1st century AD, this artifact falls within the Late Iron Age (Dacian) time period. A team from Technical University of Cluj-Napoca used 3D laser scanning to digitize the cup, while the National Museum of Transylvanian History in Cluj-Napaca provided the data.
