40MM NATO (RD40x1/7) to Draeger X-plore® Filter (3000/5000 Series) Adapter

thingiverse

This prototype design enables a 40MM NATO (RD40x1/7") gas mask thread to connect with Dräger X-plore® 3000/5000 series filter cartridges. The adapter's unique feature is the ability to clock the position of the bayonet/cartridge separate from the RD40x1/7 threads. This allows any RD40x1/7 threaded full face CBRN masks to be compatible with Dräger X-plore® 3000/5000 series line of chemical, combination, and particle filter cartridges. The adapter helps mitigate PPE shortages by expanding cross compatibility of respirators and filters among different manufacturer models. It makes any RD40x1/7 threaded full face CBRN masks work seamlessly with Dräger X-plore® 3000/5000 series line of chemical, combination, and particle filter cartridges. Part Description: 40MM_NATO_TO_DRAEGER_XPLORE_ADAPTER_MONO_GEN1.stl Initial model release with non-clocking version single piece construction. This design is not as complex as the three-piece construction but may be more difficult to assemble if Draeger does not make any non-clocking X-plore series of bayonet filters. 40MM_NATO_TO_DRAEGER_XPLORE_ADAPTER_OUTER_SHELL_GEN1.stl The outer shell of the adapter is designed for the clocking version. It has a three-piece construction with a threaded base assembly that requires thread locker after assembly. 40MM_NATO_TO_DRAEGER_XPLORE_ADAPTER_INNER_SHELL_GEN1.stl The inner shell of the adapter has a threaded base assembly that requires thread locker after assembly. The Dräger X-plore mating geometry OD is larger than the RD40x1/7, so this three-piece construction was required to achieve the same functionality as previous designed line of RD40x1/7 clocking adapters. Disclaimers/Risks: 1.) Use Proper Gaskets The adapter requires proper gasket placement on both sides. Place a gasket under the bayonet on the filter side at a nominal ID of 25.5 mm and employ a gasket in the RD40x1/7 mask or female adapter. 2.) Perform Proper Negative Pressure Test Follow established SSPs for further guidance. Don your respirator, adjust straps till taught against face, ensuring no obstructions around the periphery of the seal against face either due to hair, facial hair, or otherwise. Exhale deeply, cover all inhalation ports, and inhale deeply. The mask should suck tightly against your face without any air leakages. 3.) Use At Own Risk – Temporarily Solution Only Until Supply Chain Normalizes This adapter is only a temporarily ad-hoc solution against biological contagions. 3D printing materials are not resistant to many solvents, are water soluble, and degrade when exposed to chemicals, heat, and UV/sunlight. Perform hot nozzle pass on all exterior surfaces to reduce surface porosity and apply a thin layer of polyurethane clear coat on all exterior surfaces to help resiliency and durability for repeated sterilization. Dev. Notes: 5/01/2020 - Initial model release. In work, pending support from the 3D printing community for any fitment and model revisions.
