40MM NATO (RD40X1/7) to AOSafety Threaded Filter Adapter ================================================== Designing a solution for the 40 MM NATO (RD40x1/7), gas mask thread, to AOSafety threaded adapter has been a priority. This prototype design aims to make RD40x1/7 threaded full face CBRN masks compatible with AOSafety threaded chemical, combination, and particle cartridges. It's surprising to find that some folks still have stockpiles of AOSafety 8051 bayonet filters. Part Description: ============ 40MM_TO_AOS_THREADED_ADAPTER_GEN1.stl This single piece construction adapter is designed for AOSafety threaded filters that do not require clocking, based on threads provided by cwmendel in his AOSafety to 3M bayonet adapter. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4205509 40MM_TO_AOS_THREADED_ADAPTER_MONO_GEN1.stp The model was exported as .STP for drewdinbitz, allowing him to grab dimensions for threads. 40MM_TO_AOS_THREADED_ADAPTER_GEN2.stl Gen. 2 features engraved markings to identify the adapter. Engraved at 12-6 O'clock positions, the 3-9 O'Clock markings were removed due to an STL file size limit of 262 MB on Thingiverse. Disclaimers/Risks: =============== 1.) Use Proper Gaskets Ensure a gasket or O-ring is used on the interior side for proper seal between cartridge and interior pocket. A gasket with a nominal diameter of 72 mm or ~2.83" should be sourced. 2.) Perform Proper Negative Pressure Test Follow SSPs established by your institution or workplace for further guidance. Adjust straps until taught against face, ensuring no obstructions around the periphery of the seal. Exhale deeply and cover all inhalation ports. Inhale deeply; the mask should suck tightly against your face without air leakages. 3.) Use At Own Risk – Temporarily Solution Only Until Supply Chain Normalizes 3D printing materials are not resistant to many solvents, are water soluble, and degrade when exposed to chemicals, heat, and UV/sunlight. This adapter is only a temporarily ad-hoc solution against biological contagions. Hot nozzle pass on all exterior surfaces is recommended, as well as applying a thin layer of polyurethane clear coat for increased resiliency. Dev. Notes: ======== 04/09/2020 - Initial model release. Measurements were not verified due to lack of AOSafety threaded respirators or filters; please report any fitment issues and revisions will be released accordingly. 04/14/2020 - Updated models with engraved markings to identify the adapter, as well as removing 3-9 O'Clock markings to stay within the 262 MB upload limit on Thingiverse.
