40mm Gas Mask Canister
thingiverse
This design is meant to be a versatile, modular, and highly effective 40mm gas mask filter that can be easily printed in three dimensions. Unlike other similar designs that often require extensive support material, this one prints with minimal supports required. Its proper size allows for the efficient capture of large amounts of chemicals and particles. A HEPA air conditioning filter or a similar filter paper can be cut to fit between the filter holder and filter ring, then sandwiched in place. This filter component can then be threaded into the main canister body from the inside. Activated carbon can be packed between two particulate filters in this manner to provide NBC protection. The components should thread together smoothly with a bit of resistance. Using Teflon tape or silicone caulking around the canister threads could improve air seals in certain areas. Nylon is an ideal printing material due to its high chemical resistance and strength. An additional canister body file has been included that fits Russian GOST threads, similar to those found on the GP-5, SCHMS, and many other models. This design should not be relied upon for life-saving purposes. Use common sense to determine when a 3D printed part is suitable for use in critical situations. A video tutorial I created covers the assembly process of the filter: https://youtu.be/VQDc2sSX2TI
