I attach these to the back of a fan and the mounting bracket using them. Tiny spacers (not shown) are an option but make it easier for the fan to fit snugly between the screw head and the mounting surface. I apply just enough force so the fan stays securely in place. To prevent vibrations from transferring through my intake duct, I often position two squares next to each other. These squares measure 1/16 of an inch thick or roughly 2 millimeters thin adhesive-backed foam obtained from a craft store. A benefit of adhesive-backed material is it helps keep everything in place while building. Although it's optional, cutting this version with the adhesive facing up does work for me. I've factored in kerf compensation into my design using a laser with a 0.2 millimeter wide path or adding an offset of about 0.1 millimeters outward from each edge. By examining closely, you'll notice them on my intake ducts as well; I recommend taking a look at the rest of my designs for better understanding.
