This fan duct is designed for use with Printrbot extruders, providing primary cooling for the hot extruded thread while also offering supplementary cooling for the extruder collar/mount. The design includes optimizations and DOE's by me, and superb CAD work from my friend Eric D., who is faster at CAD than I am. Three variants of extruders were used in fit tests during this design process. The mount is designed to fit between your x-carriage and extruder drive, with the fan ducting attachable on top or bottom of the mount tabs according to your specific dimensions. The primary cooling function targets the hot extruded output, while the secondary cooling is optimally spaced at half an inch from the extruder collar/mount. To ensure successful printing without overcooling the nozzle, the ducting should not extend below the extruder nozzle. Support ribs are incorporated into the design to aid in non-cooled printing, control flow, and provide added strength to the ducting. Happy printing!
