This SCARA robotic arm is perfect for programming projects. Considering it costs under $40, its strength may not be extremely high, but the cost makes up for it. I chose materials based on what I already had in stock, which is why I used reed sensors and $3 stepper motors. The top plate ("top.stl") works well with either a stepper or a 360 servo to handle Z movement. If you're using a servo, you'll also need to print the rev counter (“rev_counter.stl”) and add an extra magnet and an extra reed sensor. With a stepper, just an extra coupler is needed. For convenience, I recommend the second solution (also because it's simpler to program). I left a thread hole at the end of the arm so you can design your own modules and share them with the community. Converting the steppers to bipolar function will give them more torque and let them work directly with Arduino RepRap and CNC boards. To do this, follow this tutorial. Unfortunately, I didn't write any demo program (I'm not a big fan of programming). If you like this model and want to see it move, write some code and share it please.
