Building a durable 48-key mechanical keyboard with plastic is definitely doable. I'm opting for Cherry MX mounts, which eliminate the need for struts and allow me to use acrylic at the bottom. To be honest, I haven't fully assembled one on my own yet, but it's something I plan to tackle soon.
