4"x10" Vent AirFlow Straightener Restrictor

The purpose of this design is at provide an insert into a standard 4" x 10" ventilation boot commonly used in heat vents (supply registers) in homes, the insert performing the functions of somewhat reducing the airflow, equalizing the airflow across the vent opening, and straightening the flow of air before reaching the louvers of the vent face plate (grill). I found that because of the way air enters the common "boot" (which converts a 4" or 6" round duct into the 4"x10" rectangular vent opening) the majority of air comes out of the vent at the end opposite the round duct. Thus, the primary intent of this is to equalize the airflow across the face of the vent, while also straightening the airflow. I also found that a number of my vents had far too much airflow for the size of room, so I was needing to close-down the louvers to the point that you could hear an obnoxious "wind whistle" from the vent. This design reduces the airflow such that I can now open the louvers a bit wider and eliminates that annoying sound. The design is split into "left" and "right" portions, which can be glued together, so as to accommodate a small 3D printer.
