4-way hat switch
thingiverse
I based this design on Acel-sim's 4-way hat switch, tweaking it to create a smoother and tighter action that could be used as an 8-way switch for controlling a search light within my flight sim collective (by PC_PILOT). I opted for the affordable $3 6x6x4.3mm through hole switches from eBay, which fit perfectly with this design. To achieve a silky-smooth surface finish on the shaft, I placed it in a drill while holding sandpaper on the spherical end to carefully remove any printing ridges that might interfere with its functionality. A gentle touch was all that was needed. The results are impressive - it works flawlessly! Kudos to Acel-sim for his original design that sparked this creative interpretation. In addition, I modified the switch to be shorter, which makes it easier to fit into tight spaces within switch boxes and controllers. I also gave the top a fresh redesign to further enhance its overall appearance and functionality.
