4" PVC Tube Canoe Outrigger Kit
thingiverse
This collection of parts for making outriggers from 4-inch PVC tubes is readily available at local big box hardware/home improvement stores. The design is intentionally made to work with easy-to-find, off-the-shelf components, aiming to make it simple for anyone to transform an old canoe into a safer and more enjoyable experience. Turning an old canoe into a stable fishing platform is also possible using this approach, especially when planning to attach a trolling motor. This kit provides the added stability and buoyancy required to account for the weight of two people plus a deep-cycle marine battery and trolling motor. The design's primary goal was to create a solution that addresses these specific needs. As this project is still in progress, please check back often for updates as new information becomes available. Please note that using this outrigger setup can increase stability but may not make the canoe unsinkable. It's crucial to follow proper installation and testing procedures to ensure safe operation. To assemble the outriggers: 1. Attach the U-Bolts to the crossbars of the canoe, making sure they are securely fastened. 2. Slide the 4-inch pipe clamps over the PVC tubes and run them over the side shelves of the adapters. 3. Use a socket wrench to tighten the clamps, taking care not to apply too much torque. Please note that proper assembly and testing procedures are crucial for safe operation. It's recommended to test the outrigger setup on dry land before using it in water.
