4-Color Self-Portrait
thingiverse
To update my profile picture, I opted for a multi-color portrait inspired by a successful 3-color bottle opener project. Using Obamicon and Inkscape, I converted my image into four separate color paths before exporting them as DXF files. OpenSCAD then extruded each color path to the thickness of one Z layer, creating individual STLs. For printing, the first color was applied normally, while the remaining colors were printed at a modified Z-offset without outline activation. After printing, excess plastic was removed with sandpaper and the extruder nozzle streak was eliminated using an X-acto knife. The final result showcased a unique, multi-colored profile image without requiring dual extruders. Previous profile images included in this blog post showcase past projects like HDTV mounts and three-color 3D prints.
