After seeing the Sewercreeps being brought back to life by the toxic matter in the sewers, the Rat King decided to try a new procedure by infusing this matter directly into live rats, and observe the effects it had on living flesh. At first he did this with common sewer rats, which were observed to have both physical and psychological mutations. They grew considerably in size and became extremely violent, ripping apart everything they saw, due to which they were named The Rippers. This favorable outcome migrated the procedure to be performed on one of the King’s subjects, Nok, which presented even more favorable results. He presented the same mutations as the common rats, but he managed to maintain his sanity, to some degree, by being infused periodically with toxic matter.
