Looking down at the scar on his right hand just behind the thumb, it ached with phantom pain from a long-ago memory. He rubs his beard while recounting the memory of the incident from his youth. "Grey. When did it become so grey?" he chuckles to himself. Up ahead, the sun breaks through the trees casting rays of golden glow on the trail ahead. One foot in front of the other, he emerges from the tree line to an open field of farmland with a beaten path running through it. "Not too far now." He whispers to himself. He notices the weight of his pack and adjusts the strap over his shoulder as he takes a quick drink from his waterskin. Step leads to step he trudged on, with his head down. With the future weighing heavy on his mind, lost in thought, he is stopped abruptly by a loud shout. "HALT! State your name and business." Had he arrived already? It seemed like only a moment since the woods. Before him stands the majestic city walls of Oakesgate, the grand capital of Talarius. He looks at the guards, slightly puzzled and steps forward. "I SAID HALT!" The tip of a spear pointed directly at his nose, inches away from his face. The guard holding the spear is young, twenty years of age at best. He knows he could disarm the guard in a heartbeat, but that would make the youth look a fool. He chooses diplomacy instead. "Young man," He says calmly ", Is this how you greet your king?"
