3v Geodesic Dome habitat
thingiverse
This is a continually evolving project still in its initial phases. Files were exported from inventor and will require scaling up by 10 times. The current files are rough designs for struts and connectors that will form a dome approximately 11-12 inches in diameter and about 6 inches high. These designs will be refined, with all connectors and struts being hollow and capable of accommodating 1/4 inch tubing and wire. To create a 3/8 dome, you will need to print 30 A struts, 40 B struts, and 50 C struts. For a 5/8 dome, you will require 30 A struts, 55 B struts, and 80 C struts. For the 3/8 dome, six 5-way connectors, five 6-way connectors, and twenty AB&C Connectors are needed, while for the 5/8 dome, six 5-way connectors, ten 6-way connectors, and thirty AB&C Connectors will be necessary. The four way connectors for the base are currently in development. I believe AB&C connectors may potentially be replaced by 6-way connectors due to the flexibility of print scale accommodating small differences. The ultimate goal is to design a three-dimensional geodesic dome that can create naturalistic environments indoors. Currently, I only have a rough model of the dome but am actively working on making its frame completely 3D printable. Additionally, I will be striving to make the domes modular, with various panels, brackets, and bases allowing for customizable maintenance options, such as integrated lighting and watering systems, panels that can open and close to regulate humidity, and adding spaces and tunneling through brackets for easy and hidden wiring inside the dome. This project is ongoing and will evolve slowly due to my current status as a college student. As changes are made, this document will be updated accordingly. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see emerge from this project, feel free to leave a comment.
