3Skulls Keychain - NameTag
thingiverse
This keychain/nametage is a remix from zando2k's The Three Wise Skulls. The original size is oversized. A 50% scale seems like an ideal size for use as a keychain. Space provided at the right of the sculpture allows you to add your name or tag – either engraved or extruded. There are numerous tools available to download that can help with this task. The original model prints well without any support required. As a keychain, it prints naturally lying flat, but may eventually need support when lying down. To prevent support from being necessary, one STL file is included with a support at the back to keep it standing upright. The support is 1mm thick, so if you scale the model to 50%, the support will become 0.5mm – still within printable thickness using a 0.4mm nozzle. I actually printed this design and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. For post-printing, I dabbed the skulls with very thin brown paint (almost transparent) so crevices stood out darker and details popped out more noticeably. The base (background), I dabbed it with a thin layer of silicone using a toothpick. I deliberately made the surface rough for better effect – you can't achieve a flat finish with silicone because it's extremely sticky. Silicone takes a day to dry, but the wait is well worth it.
