I scrub away at my glass in the bathroom basin to shake loose the sticky residue from the glue stick, but it always manages to slip into the crevices because the glass is so big and cumbersome. That's why I need a simple protective shield for the corners. It's also handy when storing the glass on its side, just like I do, to prevent any further accidents or damage.
