3M Respirator Modification
thingiverse
These 3D-printed parts can transform an outdated respirator into a safe option for high-contact, high-exposure settings using commonly available items as filtration media. These components assemble to form a filter cartridge that will fit seamlessly onto: 1. Any standard 3M respirator 2. Any standard MSA respirator 3. A 3M Disposable half facepiece respirator (model 5200) This model accepts disposable NIOSH 5101, 5201, and 5301 cartridges, which are also identifiable by four tabs rather than three. Combine these parts with cotton rounds, and you'll have a fairly safe breathing apparatus - this is not recommended for those experiencing symptoms, as exhalation is unfiltered. This system remains a work in progress, and additional features may be added. Alternatively, if a limited supply of N95 masks is available, this system can significantly stretch the supply. By cutting up the donor mask, theoretically, the material from one mask could be used to protect up to eight people. Mask used: 3M Disposable Half Face Respirator model 5201 Filtration medium used: Cotton Rounds
