3M Face Mask Respirator Filter Connector with Orientation Marker

This connector interfaces with 3M respirators, developed in response to COVID-19's threat to humanity. A shortage of N95 masks and respirator filters prompts me to create replacement filters for existing face masks. I acquired this face mask a couple years ago for spray painting projects, now repurposed as protection due to the pandemic. I'll experiment with creating COVID-19-blocking filters from accessible resources and materials, starting with the connector as the base. By Thursday, I'll release my first filter mount design using HEPA filters from vacuum cleaners, readily available in supermarkets and shipping within a week on Amazon. Other materials I'm investigating include car air filters, HVAC air filters, and cuts of fabric. 3D printed parts often contain holes and gaps that viruses can fit through, so I'll also examine finishing processes to seal any holes and gaps. A clear coat might be an effective solution. The Fusion 360 file is included to maximize the possibility of modification, as Autodesk Fusion 360 is free for individuals. You can download it and export the source file to import into other CAD programs if you prefer. I own a 3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6100, used in the development of this connector. The tail marker on the connector helps orient designs - the tail should point backwards, at least on the 3M 6100. I've made an effort to balance it left/right, and a picture of two mounted face masks demonstrates the balance. Let me know if this holds true for other 3M mask models.
